Language building

In addition to teaching communication skills using Augmentative and Alternate Communication (AAC), a major part of our services is vocabulary and language development.

Both receptive and expressive language development is necessary for the individual who uses an AAC system to support communication. We recognise that it is common to see people with communication difficulties to have a much higher word knowledge in their receptive language than it is of their expressive language. It can be very frustrating for the individual to have so much word knowledge and not being able to use it expressively.

Through the use of AAC systems we teach and build their expressive language without neglecting their receptive.

We will set communication goals and implement learning sessions to ensure communication skills using AAC is practised and their receptive and expressive language is developed.
